Behind the style and fashion of Michelle!

I’ve always been enamored with the idea of not being what is expected of me. This influences my style and the ways it constantly evolves over time. I know this is said a lot but the way I dress really depends on my mood. I love how I can express aggression or femininity through the way I dress and present myself.

Right now, I’m really into the color red and the emotions that the color evokes. It makes me feel powerful and thats the beauty of clothing – it has the power to make you feel assured in who you are and encourages you to embrace your individual style. I’ve learned to be confident in who I am, regardless of how others see me.

When it comes down to it, I dress for myself. There will always be people who don’t like something about you and while fashion is about appearance, my goal is not about pleasing others.

I try not to define my style in so many words because I found that it can be limiting. I’m inspired by so many different things around me and my style truly reflects my ever-changing moods. I see it as a palette to express my feelings and thoughts, rather than a definition of who I am. I’ve never been the best with words, so I think I turned to fashion as a way to express myself. It’s about approaching things with an open mind; never say never because the best things are truly unexpected.

I find fashion and personal style quite romantic. It’s the way you live your life: the music you listen to, the people you fall in love with, the movies you could watch over and over… It’s laughing at the funny looks people give you when you wear a hot pink jumpsuit from your Grandma’s closet with cat eye sunglasses to buy avocados at the grocery store. It’s wearing your favorite t-shirt for three days in a row and listening to Led Zeppelin on your bedroom floor. Laying around and drinking coffee in lacy slip dresses from the 1960s when it’s raining outside. Polishing your shirt favorite pair of doc martens before you walk through the mud.

When you grow up in a small town, a lot of people won’t get it and that’s one of the best parts. Never forget who you are and smile through it all. Especially (and only) if you’re wearing something that you love.
